Football Predictions Tuesday
Juventus v PSV Eindhoven
The new era of the Champions League gets underway on Tuesday night, with Juventus meeting PSV Eindhoven at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.
The Old Lady make their return to the Champions League for their twenty-fourth appearance after a one-year absence, life started well under Thiago Motta with back-to-back wins in Serie A but since then, the Zebras have played out two goalless draws including their trip to Empoli on Saturday evening. The good news for Motta is that his side have managed to keep four clean sheets in their opening games, solid at the back but need to find that bit of quality in the final third.
Young Boys v Aston Villa
Aston Villa will visit Bern on Tuesday night to face Young Boys in this new Champions League format.
Young Boys started their campaign off without a win in their first five games. Patrick Rahmen’s side are still looking for their first victory in the Super League but have done well in their cup campaigns including their surprise victory over Galatasaray both home and away to secure their place in this UCL competition, the Swiss side will be looking to make more history by advancing into the next round but it’s a big ask.
Bayern Munich v Dinamo Zagreb
Bayern Munich will welcome Dinamo Zagreb to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night in this new Champions League campaign.
Winners of this competition six times before, Bayern Munich will be hoping they can put together a run like they did under Thomas Tuchel last season where they reached the semi-final stage. Vincent Kompany’s side won’t have it easy in this new era of the UCL though, with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain to come, the Bavarians will be looking to get off to a winning start and keep up that brilliant record of reaching the knockout rounds in their last sixteen UCL campaigns.
AC Milan v Liverpool
We’ve got a fixture that’s steeped in history here as AC Milan welcome Liverpool to the San Siro in this mouth-watering UEFA Champions League clash.
It’s been a tough start to the season for Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca, his side hadn’t managed a win in his first three Serie A games and could have been facing the exit door if the Rossoneri slipped up against Venezia on Saturday (If the rumours are to be true). However, his side made no mistake with a thumping 4-0 victory, the perfect result to head into the Champions League with. It’s a big ask if Milan are to claim their eighth UCL trophy but reaching the semi-final stage against the odds two campaigns ago, could inspire the Devil.
Football Predictions Wednesday
Celtic v Slovan Bratislava
Celtic Park awaits as Celtic take on Slovan Bratislava in this new Champions League format on Wednesday night.
Winners of the 1966/1967 European Cup, Celtic begin this campaign with a home fixture against arguably their easiest opponent, on paper anyway. However, as we all know that’s not how football works and Brendan Rodgers side must be fully focussed in order to get three points in this, you feel with the likes of Atalanta, Leipzig, Dortmund and Aston Villa coming up, this is a must win already for the Bhoys. With all that said, it’s worth noting that Celtic have struggled in Europe under Rodgers, the Hoops have won just on of their last thirteen UCL group stage games.
Club Brugge v Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund will make the trip to the Jan Breydel Stadion to face Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Club Brugge are getting used to Champions League football, the Blauw-Zwart will make their sixth appearance in their last seven campaigns, their unbeaten run on home soil last season guided them to the Conference League semi-finals. Nicky Hayen’s side sit at the top of the Jupiler Pro League with four victories from their seven games so far, after a slow start to their campaign, they’ve now put together four wins on the bounce ahead of this one.
Manchester City v Inter Milan
The Premier League champions meet the current Scudetto holders as Manchester City welcome Inter Milan to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening.
I suppose this is one of the benefits of this new Champions League format, we don’t have to wait until the later round to get mouth-watering games like this one. On a week when the hearing will commence regarding Manchester City’s alleged 115 charges, Pep Guardiola will make sure his side remains focus as they start their UCL campaign. It’s been a good start to the season for City, winning all four of their Premier League games so far whilst their nearest rivals have already dropped points, they remain the only side in the Premier League with a 100% record, whilst Erling Haaland has already netted nine times.
Football Predictions Thursday
Feyenoord v Bayer Leverkusen
We could be in for an entertaining clash in Rotterdam as Feyenoord welcome Bayer Leverkusen to the De Kuip in the Champions League on Thursday evening.
Feyenoord extended their unbeaten run in the Eredivisie to twenty-four games. However, that doesn’t tell the full story as Brian Priske’s side have drawn three of their four league games so far against sides that they should really be beating with all due respect (Willem II, Sparta Rotterdam & Groningen). Feyenoord have a really good home record in Europe but that was under Arne Slot, this is a new era for De club aan de Maas and they need to be able to see games out.
Atalanta v Arsenal
This is another mouth-watering clash in the Champions League opening fixtures as Arsenal travel to Bergamo on Thursday night to face Atalanta.
Atalanta are back in the Champions League after winning the Europa League last season, a massive achievement for La Dea and Gian Piero Gasperini. It’s been a mixed start for Gasperini’s side, having started their season off with a defeat in the Super Cup to Real Madrid, they managed just one victory in their first three games in the league prior to their meeting with Fiorentina. In pulsating first-half which produced five goals, Atalanta bounced back from their 4-0 defeat at Inter with a 3-2 win over Fiorentina, a scoreline we predicted in our blog earlier in the week. Ademola Lookman played his first game of the season and produced a goal and an assist, the man from South London will be hoping to do the same against this North London side.
Atletico Madrid v RB Leipzig
Two teams in great form will come head-to-head on Thursday night at the Metropolitano Stadium as Atletico Madrid welcome German side RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
Atletico Madrid will kick their UEFA Champions League campaign off on Thursday night for the twelfth consecutive season under Diego Simeone. The Argentine led his side into the semi-final stage back in 2016/2017 but that’s the furthest his side has been in this competition since then, his side have made a strong start to the campaign having won three of their first five La Liga games and drawing two. The hunt for Atletico Madrid’s first European trophy begins, maybe Simone can work his magic and provide it.
